Cal Poly Partners opened its brand new Plaza located behind the north endzone at Alex G. Spanos Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 11.
The 14,000-square-foot area can be used to host concerts and other live events when Cal Poly athletics are away from home.
“We have the VIP terrace that’s reservable for students, faculty, or outside groups to have for private parties,” associate executive director of commercial services for Cal Poly Partners Andrea Burns said. “It’s kind of the cornerstone to really be able to open up to a lot more events here.”
Cal Poly President Jeffery Armstrong spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, announcing that the plaza would be open Monday through Thursday as another dining option. The area around the stadium was described as a “food desert.”
Although the official opening was for the game against Idaho State, a soft opening was done during Cal Poly’s home opener against Western Oregon.
The new facilities also allow cooking to be done on-site at the stadium.
“Previously up until this season we were in a 20-by-30 shed,” director of commercial services of Cal Poly Partners Russell Monteath said. “One of the nice things in this space is we have two mobile kitchen units… It’s a really upgraded experience to the football game and to the concessions.”
Admission into the plaza requires a special ticket that can be bought online through gopoly.com.
