With opening night approaching, Cal Poly Theatre and Dance students are putting the final touches on their production of “Urinetown” at Spanos Theatre.
In the days leading up to the show, actors rehearse scenes while taking last-minute direction, and technical crews fine-tune lighting and sound cues. Behind the scenes, costume designers make alterations to accommodate quick changes, and scenic artists complete detailed set pieces that bring the musical’s world to life.
Producing a musical requires coordination across multiple departments, from stage management to wardrobe to the scene shop. Students say the collaborative process builds strong connections among cast and crew while demanding precision and flexibility during a busy production week.
The satirical musical opens Thursday, Feb. 26, and runs through March 5 at Spanos Theatre. Multiple performances are scheduled throughout the week.
Tickets are available through the Cal Poly Theatre and Dance website or the Performing Arts Center box office.
