In their sixth one-score game of the season, Cal Poly Football upset Idaho State 25-24.

Mustang quarterback Anthony Grigsby Jr. completed his third game-winning or tying touchdown pass of the season in the final two minutes of the game. His pass went to Misa Paiau, who ran three yards after the catch and dodged a tackle to score. Kicker Josue Lopez converted the game-winning extra point.

Cal Poly defensive back Demetrius Simon shut down Idaho State’s offense with a spectacular one-handed interception to effectively end the game.

Cal Poly football (4-3, 3-1 Big Sky) was 14.5-point underdogs going into the game, according to DraftKings. Idaho State Football (4-2, 1-2 Big Sky) was coming off its first loss of the season, a 38-31 game against Northern Arizona.

Grigsby Jr. dominated the ground all game. He led the Mustangs with 55 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, and a rushing two-point conversion. Grigsby Jr. also threw for 198 yards and the game-winning touchdown to Tayvion McCoy.

Running back Jaden Green was quiet on the ground for his standards, but he still played a key role with 49 rushing yards and 30 receiving yards. McCoy led the Mustangs in receiving yards with 78.

The Cal Poly defense held up despite missing linebacker and captain Mikey D’Amato, who was still just 1 tackle away from leading the conference going into the game despite missing time. Safety RL Miller caught an interception for the third straight game and led the team with 10 tackles. Kenny Olson continues to lead the Big Sky with 69 tackles, adding eight against Idaho State.

Cal Poly will look to stay in the hunt for the conference lead at Northern Colorado next week.
