Cal Poly Volleyball swept a tightly contested match with UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday, Oct. 29, inside the Thunderdome,
The Mustangs (15-7, 8-3 Big West) swept the season series with the Gauchos (10-13, 6-5 Big West).
Cal Poly jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening set before UC Santa Barbara could regroup.
With runs of 6-0 and 4-0, the Gauchos managed to sneak back into the set, getting all the way to 24-23. However, they could not tie the set, and the Mustangs squeaked out a 25-23 set win.
A back-and-forth second set left Cal Poly down 17-13 before they went on their own runs of 6-0 and 4-0, taking the second set 25-20.
The third set again started tightly, but an early 9-1 run from the Mustangs put them up 16-10. The Gauchos responded with their own 8-1 run to make it 18-17 in favor of UC Santa Barbara.
More back-and-forth followed, and with UC Santa Barbara on set point 24-23, they committed a service error, tying the third set.
Cal Poly would take the gift from the Gauchos and both tie-breaking points, completing the sweep 26-24.
Redshirt Senior Tommi Stockham moved into third place in all-time kills at Cal Poly with 1,480 after a 20-kill performance. Freshman Elif Hurriyet stood out again defensively, having 20 or more digs for the fourth time this season.
Meanwhile, redshirt junior Emme Bullis almost reached the 40-assist mark for the seventh time this season, falling just short with 39 assists.
The Mustangs will travel across the pond to take on the University of Hawaii on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Stan Sheriff Center at 10 p.m.
