After a historic NCAA Tournament run in 2025, Cal Poly Volleyball is already drawing attention for the upcoming season, as the team announced that Cal Poly will be the host site for the 2026 Big West Championship.
With 2026 marking the tournament’s fourth year, it will be the Mustangs’ first time hosting.
The tournament is set to be held at Mott Athletics Center on Nov. 25-28 and will feature the top six teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season.
The Mustangs took home the Big West Championship in 2025 after defeating conference regular-season champions UC Davis in a 3-1 championship match at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach.
Despite making it to the tournament all three years, this victory marked the Mustangs’ first Big West Tournament Championship as they fell to the University of Hawai’i in the finals during the 2024 season and were also eliminated by the Rainbow Wahine in a 3-0 match in the semifinals in 2023.
The Big West will look a little different this year with the departure of Hawai’i and the introduction of three new teams: California Baptist, Sacramento State, and Utah Valley. After entering the Big West Conference with full membership in 2012, Hawai’i ended its 14-year term on June 30 and will now compete in the Mountain West Conference for women’s volleyball.
The Mustangs start their season at the Texas A&M Invitational on Aug. 28, while conference play kicks off on Sep. 25, when they will take on CSU Bakersfield at Mott Athletics Center.
