Cal Poly Men’s Soccer fell short in a 1-0 loss to Gonzaga Saturday night at Luger Field in Spokane, Washington.

The game’s only goal came in the seventh minute when the Bulldogs (5-8-3, 1-4-0 Pac-12) found the back of the net from a set piece.

The Mustangs (6-6-5, 1-2-2 Pac-12) pressured the Gonzaga defense throughout the match, finishing with 12 shots. Gonzaga goalkeeper Chema Preciado denied shots on goal from both Colin Pearce and Charlie Hogan, preserving the shutout.

In the 76th minute, the Mustangs appeared to score the equalizer off Hogan’s boot. However, after a video review, officials wiped the goal off the board after determining Cal Poly had committed a foul earlier in the buildup.

Goalkeeper Mathew Guerra worked hard to keep the Mustangs in striking distance, finishing the game with a career-high seven saves. Gonzaga led 9-2 in shots on goal.

This loss marks the Mustangs’ second straight 1-0 defeat after falling short at UC Irvine on Wednesday. The Mustangs return home for their regular-season finale against UC Riverside on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. A Halloween win would keep Cal Poly’s hopes of reaching the four-team Pac-12 Tournament alive.
