Cal Poly Volleyball notched its seventh sweep of the season, defeating Cal State Fullerton Friday night.

With a .290 average hitting percentage, Cal Poly ranks No. 10 in the country. 

This ranking held as the Mustangs’ (9-6, 5-0) offense helped them secure the sweep. 

The Mustangs started the match swinging, hitting .414 in set one. 

Fifth-year outside hitter Kayla Murdoch led the offense with 10 total kills, followed closely by sophomore middle blocker Charlotte Kelly, who tallied nine with a .750 percentage and zero errors.

The Mustangs continued their offensive production throughout the match, outhitting the Titans (5-13, 0-5) in every set, though they hit below their national top-ten average in sets two and three.

The Mustang defense allowed Cal Poly to outhit the Titans, holding them to 34 kills compared with Cal Poly’s 38. 

Cal Poly’s back-row defense matched Fullerton’s, as both teams recorded 42 digs, but the Mustangs fell short in the front row, recording only four blocks, one fewer than the Titans.

Junior libero Elif Hurriyet led both teams in digs, recording 11 throughout the match. 

The second set was the most competitive, ending 25-23. Both teams had 12 kills, yet Cal Poly was more efficient with a higher hitting percentage. 

The Mustang serves were pivotal to closing out the match as they earned five of their eight aces in the third set. They out-served Fullerton, as the Titans had only three aces total. 

Senior outside hitter Emma Fredrick led Cal Poly in aces, with three of the team’s total. 

Cal Poly finished the match 25-18, keeping them undefeated in conference and denying the Titans their first conference win.

They look to continue their conference winning streak on Saturday as they take on Long Beach State on Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. at the LBS Financial Credit Union Pyramid.
