Cal Poly Health and Wellbeing is launching their Student Transport Service today. The service is intended for students living on campus who are too ill or injured to get to the Health Center.
This program, which is separate from the DRC’s transportation service, allows students to be picked up and dropped off at various locations on campus.
The service occurs each hour between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday on a first-come first-served basis. There are currently 16 pickups per day, 2 drop-offs and 2 pick-ups per hour according to Diego Abeloos, senior associate director of strategic communications and customer experience for Campus Health and Wellbeing. The golf cart can accommodate 2 people per ride.
This program was created out of an ongoing goal to increase access to Health Center services for students.
Transportation services were identified as a need for students who utilize the health center, Abeloos wrote in an email to Mustang News.
While the service is still new, students who have utilized the rides are appreciative, especially if they are suffering from an illness or injury that impacts their ability to walk to the Health Center, Abeloos wrote in an email to Mustang News.
To reserve a pick-up, students can call the Health Center front desk at 805-756-1211 and indicate where they would like to be picked up. Rides can be reserved same day. Students who book a ride must be able to reach the pick-up location with minimal assistance, Abeloos wrote in an email to Mustang News.
The Student Transportation Service is not intended for medical issues that require an ER visit. More information can be found on the Campus Health and Wellbeing website.
Pick-up locations include:
- DRC Tram Stop HB2 – H-2B Parking Lot 4: In the HB2 parking lot near the motorcycle spaces.
- DRC Tram Stop 100 – North Mountain Dorms 6: Corner of Village Drive and North Perimeter next to North Mountain.
- DRC Tram Stop 170L – Cerro Vista Dorms: Lower Cerro Vista loop at Mustang shuttle stops.
- DRC Tram Stop 171I – PCV Dorms: In PCV, in front of Inyo.
- DRC Tram Stop 6 – PAC Circle: Mustang shuttle stop at the PAC loop.
