Although the Cal Poly men’s soccer team lost its regular-season finale 2-1 at No. 19 UCLA Saturday night in a non-conference match, the No. 25 Mustangs learned they’ll be the third seed in the semifinals of the inaugural Big West Conference Tournament.

Cal Poly (10-5-5, 5-2-3) will visit No. 17 UC Santa Barbara, the second seed, at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Harder Stadium.

The top seed, No. 11 UC Irvine, will host No. 15 UC Davis in the other match-up Wednesday night.

The Mustangs lost 1-0 in double overtime to the Gauchos at Alex G. Spanos Stadium on Oct. 17 in front of 11,075 – the third-largest regular-season crowd in college men’s soccer history.

They battled UCSB to a scoreless tie Nov. 5 before 9,749 in Santa Barbara.

If the Mustangs win and UC Davis defeats UC Irvine, Cal Poly would host the Big West title game in Spanos Stadium at noon – four hours before the Mustangs football team would take on UC Davis on the same field.
