Cal Poly Track and Field competed in their only home meet of the season this past weekend, showcasing their dominance with 21 event wins at the Mark Conover Classic on Saturday, March 22.
Highlighting the meet was junior Lexi Evans.
Evans had an incredible 2024 season, winning the Big West Title in the women’s pole vault by clearing a mark of 13 feet, 10 inches, good for second in the event in program history.
The San Diego native has lost no momentum in 2025, as she broke the school record in the women’s pole vault with a lifetime best of 14 feet, 5.25 inches. The mark is the best in the NCAA this outdoor season so far and captured one out of many first-place finishes for Cal Poly.
Women shine on the field
Along with Evans, the Cal Poly women tore it up on the field with numerous event wins.
Senior Cadence-Roy Williams set a personal record in the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 1.25 inches, captured first in the event. Sophomore Melanie Castelli won in the high jump with an outdoor PR of five feet, eight inches, while senior Melody Nwagwu earned first in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 40 feet, six inches.
In the throwing events, junior Chase Kubinski threw a PR (144 feet, 1 inch) to earn first in the javelin, and in the women’s hammer throw, senior Anna Grexton grabbed first with a toss of 170 feet, 11 inches that was just one inch away from a new personal best.
Freshman Gracelyn Brown made an impactful debut, recording the sixth-best mark in program history in the women’s hammer throw (158-1) for fourth place in her first meet as a Mustang.
The Cal Poly women totaled 11 victories in the meet.
Relay team makes history
On the men’s side, Cal Poly captured victory in both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
In the 4×100, senior Noah Bustos, junior MacGregor TeSelle, freshman Vincent Atilano and sophomore Ryan Teeple ran legs to win the event with a time of 40.25, the best since 2004.
Bustos also took first in the long jump (23-6.5), while TeSelle won the 400 (47.41) and Atilano won the 400 hurdles with a PR of 52.64.
The Mustangs will be in action next at the West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State from March 28-29.
