We at Cal Poly know what an amazing institution this is. Relatively small class sizes, state-of-the-art equipment, great professors, and an amazing sports program (Go Mustangs!) all combine to make this a world-class university.
Recently, the outside world has begun to take notice of our greatness. On Oct. 9, the Mustang Daily reported that we ranked seventh in the Best of the West category in a U.S. News report.
But many sense a change in the winds. Class sizes are increasing and some students are finding it harder to graduate due to lack of available classes. And the professors that have made this campus great are finding it harder to live in the posh San Luis Obispo area with salaries below the industry standards.
While I don’t pretend to know the inner workings of the recent contract negotiations between the CSU system and the faculty, I do know that the student body needs to support our professors. After all, it is the professors who educate us to such a high standard and it is the professors, and not the CSU administrators, who have made Cal Poly alumni such a sought after commodity on the career marketplace. I implore you, dear reader, to show the faculty some love by telling them what a great job they are doing. We do not want to lose our valuable faculty to private universities or the dreaded UC campuses, so I am choosing to endorse the faculty and I hope others join me.
