Early on the morning of July 11, industrial technology sophomore Dave Go was killed in a car crash in Hayward, California when a driver rear-ended the stopped car he was in. The driver, 28-year-old Paul Butler, was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter while driving drunk after trying to flee the scene.

Go was in the passenger seat when the crash occurred. He sustained major injuries and was taken to Eden Medical Center where he died. His female driver was treated for minor injuries and released.

Construction management junior Miguel Diaz was shocked to hear of Go’s passing.

“It’s crazy,” Diaz said. “Absolutely crazy. He was a really good friend of mine.”

Architecture sophomore Chelzea Furtado was also saddened by Go’s death.

“I knew him living in Sequoia,” Furtado said. “He was stylish, he was warm-hearted, and he was always smiling. He was very bright and kind.”

Diaz first met Go in the Filipino Culture Exchange Club, where Go was his first acquaintance.

“He was actually the first guy I met when I joined the club,” Diaz said. “In the club they divide all the people into different families, and we got put in the same family. We were really close.”

Go was also a member of Student Support Services (SSS), a club dedicated to helping students develop their academic and personal skills, where he met biology sophomore Dulce Mendez-Munoz.

“We were put into the same group,” Mendez-Munoz said. “(We) bonded over time because he was so spontaneous and so nice to be around. He always had a smile and was always optimistic.”

In addition to the club he was involved in, Go loved to dance recreationally.

“He was an insane dancer,” Mendez-Munoz said. “He was incredible. He could just twirl and do a split like it was nothing. One of my fond memories was when we went bowling with our SSS group. He (threw the ball) fabulously, it hit all the pins, and he turned around and fell into splits. It was perfect.”
