Cal Poly Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils
We, as leaders and members of Cal Poly Greek Life, would like to sincerely apologize on behalf of our student body to the Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo communities in regards to the event that took place on March 7.
We do not condone the reckless behavior that took place at the unfortunately titled event, “St. Fratty’s Day.” We have the utmost respect for the San Luis Obispo community and its residents. Disruptive social gatherings are not how Cal Poly students show their respect.
Our Greek organizations are built on selfless service, academic excellence, personal growth and lifelong relationships.
We are committed to the safety of our members, demonstrated by our extensive risk management and bystander intervention policies. We acknowledge that individual members within our Greek Community were among the thousands of Cal Poly students that participated in this disastrous event; that is not what we stand for and it is not who we are.
The roof collapse serves as a shocking wake-up call to the dangers of an uncontrollable event, and we are thankful that there were not more serious injuries.
We call on all Cal Poly students to join in Greek Life’s commitment to the prevention of dangerous and unruly gatherings in the future that can severely impact the greater San Luis Obispo Community. It is our duty as members of Greek Life, as members of Cal Poly, and as members of the San Luis Obispo Community to ensure a safe and responsible social environment.

I can only hope that you guys wrote that, and then as soon as you were in a private place, burst out in laughter. It’s more like a sympathy letter an apology. I’d like to offer an alternative that states all of the exact same things, but just worded differently; with a little less uh…. bullcrap.
“We are sorry for things that happened that were not directly related to us. We want to disassociate ourselves from the event completely. In fact, we want to disassociate the members of our association from the character traits that people in general would have at an event like this. In fact, if any of us we demonstrated those traits it was entirely a fluke, because we’re ‘not like that.’ Look! right here! We have a policy and procedure on it, SEE!? Clearly we’re not like that.
But despite it not being tied to us, we’re sorry that it happened. And we call upon everyone else to follow our ongoing lead to make sure these kinds of things don’t happen. Because really, we have no intention of taking the fall for the rest of you. Look, who cares who brought the kegs, you drank from them too!”
If you dd walk away laughing, then I appreciate that this is what you had to write under the circumstances to make that woman Marx go away. (I totally understand that, seriously, that’s how she gets her way). If you did not laugh, and you think that letter is an honest expression of sincerity, then you are completely self unaware and represent all that is wrong about American business and politics… people actually believing their own B.S.
