The No. 9-ranked Cal Poly baseball team took two of three on the road from Seattle University over the weekend. On Friday, Junior Matt Imhof broke his own strikeout record by producing a school Division I record fifteen strikeouts in a 4-0 Mustangs victory.

Imhof pitched eight innings, giving up four hits and three walks before handing it off to junior closer Reid Reilly, who pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

The second game of the series saw the Mustangs jump out to a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth before surrendering consecutive 10-run and four-run innings in the sixth and seventh.

True freshman Slater Lee gave up six earned runs on four walks and five hits. The Mustangs answered in the seventh with six runs of their own to put the score at 13-11 before Seattle eventually took the lead for good. Reilly took the loss in that game as he surrendered three runs on two hits and two walks.

The Mustangs followed the loss with a bounce-back win, much like they have all season, in a close 2-1 victory on Sunday to win the series. Sophomore right-hander Casey Bloomquist gave up no runs in 8 1/3 innings of work. Bloomquist has now given up just two earned runs in 19 2/3 innings of work this season. His most recent performance marked his longest start of the season.

Junior left fielder Nick Torres provided the offense for the Mustangs by driving in senior outfielder Tim Wise with a double in the top of the first and connecting for a solo home run in the top of the third. The long ball marked Torres’ fourth of the season and brought his average up to .389 for the year.

The Mustangs return home for an 18-game stretch starting this Tuesday when they open up a three-game series against Northern Illinois.
