Cal Poly students uneasy with the news that an attempted robbery and sexual assault allegedly took place at an apartment on Leff Street Tuesday should remember that Cal Poly is one of the safest campuses in the California State University system, according to University Police Chief Bill Watton.
Overall violence down, sexual assaults up
Why is 'number whatever' anonymous?
It is ironic that “number whatever,” the Mustang Daily guest columnist, wishes to remain anonymous (“The story of a number reduced to zero”). Perhaps I missed the point of his/her guest commentary, but I thought s/he was bemoaning his/her apparent expendability within the CSU system.
Stop trying to make 'maverick' happen!
If I were Tom Cruise, I would be pissed. I would be upset because John McCain and the Republicans are trying to change the badass, aviator shades-wearing “Top Gun” character image into that of a cranky old politician desperately trying to get a position I’m fairly sure he would use to take the country in the wrong direction.

Cal Poly water ski club competes at national level for third straight year
The National Collegiate Water Ski Championships begin today and the Cal Poly water ski team is set to pull off another upset.
During its last competition at the western regional on Oct. 5, Cal Poly had its best finish ever when it took second in a field of 12 teams from the western United States.
Central Coast clash continues
Only a few years ago, Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara may as well have been on opposite ends of the continent when it came to men’s soccer. Now, their proximity on the field reflects the closeness of the hour-and-a-half drive connecting the two.
The Mustangs lost 12 in a row to the Gauchos from 2001 through 2006, and often averaged attendances of fewer than 500 at the school’s generic sports complex.
Heart rates soar during Rec Center classes
The Cal Poly gym is packed late one Wednesday night. Every machine, dumbbell and set of weights is taken by students looking to burn some calories.
It’s not an uncommon sight. The Cal Poly Recreation Center frequently gets overcrowded, forcing many students to alter their workout routines.
