The Pi Beta Phi sorority is set to join Cal Poly’s Greek community in 2026-27 after a unanimous vote by chapter presidents. In a newsletter release, Fraternity and Sorority Life announced the chapter accepted their invitation to join for the 2026-27 school year.

Both Pi Beta Phi and Alpha Xi Delta received strong support as finalists for the Panhellenic expansion process; however, the committee ultimately voted to bring Pi Beta Phi to campus.

Pi Beta Phi will hold recruitment in the fall of 2026 following formal recruitment, according to university spokesperson Keegan Koberl.

The sorority was first founded in 1867 by 12 women at Monmouth College in Illinois. Now, they have nearly 17,000 members and 131 chapters across the country. They aim to help members build relationships “by providing a sense of belonging, mutual support and guidance,” according to their national chapter website.

Their philanthropy focuses on expanding literacy and reading among children. Their efforts include their Champions Are Readers program, which partners with local kindergarten through third grade students for reading activities, and their Literacy Grants, which nominates local organizations and community partners for up to $2,000 in new books and supplies.
