The fatal crash that claimed 18 lives of the 1960 Cal Poly football team will receive an honorary induction into the Cal Poly Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend.

A private ceremony will take place Friday to dedicate the new Mustang Memorial Plaza.

The plaza is 15,000 square feet and will honor the members of the team who lost their lives in the Oct. 29 crash.

A dinner will also take place where the players will receive an honorary induction into the Cal Poly Althletics Hall of Fame.

A pregame dedication will take place Saturday to dedicate Alex G. Spanos Stadium and Mustang Memorial Field. Teammates and coaches who survived the crash have been invited to attend as well as the families of those who lost their lives.

The stadium is scheduled to be completed later this season and will hold 10,000 seats as well as state-of-the-art technology.

Saturday’s Great West Football Conference game will kick off at 6 p.m. against Southern Utah.
