After a week of rising temperatures, San Luis Obispo is expected to experience a lot of rain over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service. Heavy rainfall and intense wind is projected to occur starting Tuesday with an 80% chance of rainfall, leading to an increased chance of rain on Wednesday.
The remainder of the week will be dry, but the heavy rainfall is expected to start again on Sunday. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue through next week between 50-80% and the highest temperatures may range from 52 to 55 degrees.
On Monday Feb. 16, NWS is estimating 2.15 inches of rainfall throughout the day with 7-15 mph wind and gusts up to 35 mph. The rain is expected to decrease starting on Wednesday Feb. 18.
Moist conditions could result in poisonous mushrooms
With this brief rain spell, the California Department of Public Health is advising people to take caution for the growth of death cap mushrooms, a poisonous species. Death cap mushrooms are quickly spreading along the coast due to increased moisture and rainfall in the area.
As the outbreak continues, the CDPH is urging individuals to refrain from consuming these potentially deadly mushrooms. The mushrooms have been linked to the deaths of three adults and the hospitalization of 35 people.
