Highway 1 at Mud Creek reopened Friday, March 8 at 3:30 p.m. after Caltrans received confirmation from National Weather Service data that the significant storms have passed in the area.
Wednesday, Dec. 5, James urged officials to prohibit unprotected left turns across Highway 101 traffic, specifically at the El Campo intersection, at a San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG) meeting.
In total, the restoration required 350 staff from Caltrans, an independent contractor, 40 pieces of equipment and 1,500 trucks.
Caltrans are currently removing approximately 9,000 cubic yards of debris from the closed highway each day.
The road is still blocked from the south due to the massive Mud Creek Slide in May.
