With St. Patrick’s Day weekend approaching, Mustang News compiled an all-encompassing guide to the happenings, closures and resources available to students.
Morning on The Green: A Mustang Music Festival
A free concert event with headliners ZHU and Galantis will take place from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Door open at 3:45 a.m., with student opener I.P. “What’s the Addy?,” who previously opened for Swae Lee last year.
Cal Poly students who did not secure tickets may join the standby line. Those who secured tickets and do not show up will lose access to their tickets at 6:00 a.m. After 6:00 a.m., the standby line and ticketed line will consolidate and prioritize tickets for those already in the ticket line.
Beer will be served for students 21+. Attendees must bring their ticket registration, a valid form of government-issued ID and an active student PolyCard.
Additional Campus Events
PULSE is hosting a wellness booth outside of 1901 Marketplace from 5:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15 for snacks, water and alcohol safety trivia.
PULSE will also be roaming around the UU and Vista Grande with a wellness wagon that serves snacks and water.
A Safe Observation Space (SOS) will be located at the Multi Activity Center (MAC) from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is a temporary sobering center for those intoxicated but breathing and conscious. This service is protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Individual student information will not be shared with the conduct office.
Residence Halls
Guests will not be allowed in University Housing starting 8:00 p.m. March 13 through 8:00 a.m. on March 18. Students who live on campus can only return to their residence halls and apartments.
Additionally, charges for damages incurred during the no-guest period will be doubled and can be as high as $1,500.
There are resident check in points at each residence hall, other than North Mountain, and at the entrances of Poly Canyon Village (PCV) and Cerro Vista Apartments.
Parking and Transportation
Shuttles will run from the PAC, Cerro Vista and PCV from 3:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Guests will not be able to purchase visitor parking permits from March 13 at 10:00 p.m. through March 17 at 7:00 a.m. There will additionally be no overnight visitor parking.
On-campus residents with a valid parking permit will be able to access parking structures. Staff will be at each lot to verify permits. Commuter lots will close at 10:00 p.m. on March 14.
The following roads will be closed to through traffic from March 14 to March 16.
- Grand Avenue at Pacheco Way
- Village Drive at Perimeter Road
- Village Drive at Via Carta
Students who have a common final on March 15 may still access campus to park in specified lots. Due to anticipated delays, the Office of the Dean of Students recommends arriving an hour in advance to consider heavy pedestrian traffic.
If there is a road closure, students may inform parking officers that they have a final and will be let through.
The following parking lots are recommended by the school:
- H4 Staff Parking Lots
- C Lots around California Blvd
The A-1, G-2 and H-12 lots will be closed.
Bus routes 3A and 4A will experience detours on March 15, no longer stopping at Foothill at Casa, Kennedy Library, California at Stafford, Performing Arts Center (PAC) and Grand at McCollum.
Safety Enhancement Zone
The city Safety Enhancement Zone (SEZ) will be in effect from March 14 at midnight to 18 at 7:00 a.m.
Community members may receive double fines for noise, unruly gathering, public urination and open container. A first violation for noise, public urination and open container will be $700 and a first violation for unruly gathering will be $1,000.
