The seventh-seeded Cal Poly women’s tennis team was eliminated in the Big West Championship quarterfinals by second-seeded UC Irvine at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, 4-0, this past Friday.

In doubles action, Cal Poly seniors Mika Padmanabhan and Kathryn Webb were defeated by UC Irvine’s Brooke Schweyer and Sarah Gong, 8-2. Freshman Sayaka Tsugai and senior Ane McPike lost 8-1 to concede the doubles point.

The struggles continued in singles play as the Mustangs were swept at the No. 2, 3 and 5 courts. Padmanabhan dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match, while Stone lost 6-2, 6-2 and McPike was defeated 6-2, 6-1.

Cal Poly closed the 2014 season with a 6-11 overall record.
