The Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Elections came to a close Thursday night as Cal Poly students picked a new ASI President and Board of Directors.

As the sun crept below the horizon, curious onlookers awaited the results while local band Chiller Whales rocked the stage.

Voter turnout was 21.4 percent; president candidates Sarah Storelli received 2,920 votes, more than the 51 percent she needed to win the position.

Storelli starts her term June 15. She said she was “incredibly happy” when the results became official.

“I am just so excited to serve the students,” she said.

Ryan Moriarty, founder of the Facebook group Coalition for the Restoration of Alex Kaplan in the Cal Poly Community, sported a tank top with Kaplan’s likeness.

He said he congratulates Storelli and applauds her campaigning efforts.

Official votes for the ASI Board of Directors will not become official until May 19 upon review of alleged impromper use of materials during campaigning and also candidates representing themselves in a different light, according to ASI Elections policy.

  1. Can anyone elaborate on the “alleged impromper use of materials during campaigning and also candidates representing themselves in a different light, according to ASI Elections policy?”

  3. Yes, a report is coming. Stay tuned Bob, stay tuned. I am working on that as we speak.

  4. Again, these are unofficial results. According to Elections Chair Kelsey Rice, “Results are not considered official until ratification by the ASI Board of Directors. Ratification will take place at the final Board of Directors Meeting, Wednesday May 19. The meeting will begin at 5 pm and will be held in UU220. * There are official complaints filed under investigation by the ASI Elections Committee.”

    1. Do you think we’re going to learn specifically what the complaints were, and how they changed the vote counts? Will we get a before and after picture?

  5. I hope that in ASI’s attempt to maintain transparency that nothing will be hidden from the public. It is my job to find out and relay the information.

    1. Yeah, I hope so too. It will be disappointing if they just release results and say “well this is how it ended up” and we never know what actually happened. I look forward to hearing more, thank you.
