On National Signing Day, many Cal Poly sports programs announced their signees for the class of 2025-26.
Here’s a look at these future Mustangs and what they bring to their respective programs.
Cal Poly Wrestling
Cal Poly wrestling is in the midst of its 2024-25 season, but head coach Jon Sioredas is still making moves for the future. The team announced five recruits who will join the 2025-26 season roster.
The commits are all California natives and join a deep pool of young talent poised to continue the program’s success into the future.
Two recruits are in the top five of their high school weight class rankings and have all been dominant across major competitions.
Standout recruit Levi Bussey of Granite Bay High School is the second-ranked 190-pounder in the state on CalGrappler and holds a four-and-a-half-star prospect rating.
Bussey accumulated significant wins at the Reno Tournament of Champions in August, including one impressive 15-0 technical fall win.
Justice El-Sayad of Temecula Valley High School will bring championship experience to the program next year.
El-Sayed is the 2024 USA Wrestling Western States champion at the 285-pound level. He defeated each opponent by fall or technical fall in a dominant tournament run.
Christian Garcia is the fourth-ranked 132-pound California high school wrestler from Walnut High School in Walnut, Calif.
Earlier this year, Garcia traveled to Greensborough, North Carolina, to compete in the prestigious Super 32 challenge, making it to the third round of the consolation bracket.
Bakersfield High School product Aiden Simmons and Robert Jones of Poway High School round out the group.
Simmons holds a four-and-a-half star rating at the 150-pound level. This March, he placed second in the junior boys 138-pound USA Wrestling FK Nationals.
Jones wrestled at 138 pounds at the USA Wrestling Western States regional, taking sixth in his weight class.
Adam Kemp and Legend Lamer are the only Cal Poly wrestlers who will graduate after the season, but they will be hard for the Mustangs to replace. Both are nationally ranked, went to the NCAA tournament last year, and will be key performers for the rest of the season.
The team is well prepared to continue their success for multiple years into the future, as most of their starters hold multiple years of eligibility.
Cal Poly Women’s Soccer
This past week, the team signed six new players to National Letters of Intent as it looks to rebuild for the 2025 season.
Addie Crosno (MF)
A San Luis Obispo native, Crosno will be the 12th member of her family to attend Cal Poly.
The midfielder is a three-time CCAA All-Mountain League honoree and was named 2024’s Mountain League MVP for helping San Luis Obispo High School reach the CIF Central Section Division I quarterfinals.
Crosno has shown a knack for finding opportunities for her teammates to score, notching eight assists in the 2023-24 season, according to MaxPreps. She also scored four goals.
Her offensive versatility should help a Cal Poly team that struggled to score goals consistently this past season.
Farra Franklin (MF)
Franklin will join her parents and brother as collegiate soccer players when she joins the Mustangs next fall.
The midfielder has captured three straight Golden Boot awards as a member of the Yosemite High School Badgers and was named Offensive Player of the Year last season, leading the team in assists.
Kenzie Herzing (F)
Herzing will follow in her mother’s footsteps as a member of the Cal Poly Women’s Soccer team. Playing for the program from 1998-2002, Megan Herzing holds the school record for game-winning goals with 18.
The forward is a two-time scholar-athlete on JSerra Catholic High School’s varsity team as a freshman and sophomore.
She helped the Lions reach the CIF state playoffs both years and also led her club team, the HB Koge Slammers to three Elite Clubs National League Southwest Conference titles and the ECNL National Championship final three times.
Kammy MacLennan (F)
MacLennan was a four-year starter as an attacking midfielder who helped Portland, Oregon’s Jesuit High School, to four straight Metro League titles and state playoff appearances.
The team recently won their 16th state title on Nov. 16, beating Grant High School to win the OSAA Division 6A title.
MacLennan was also a member of the 2022 OSAA 6A state championship team, which was, at one point, ranked No. 2 nationally by TopDrawerSoccer.
Izzy Matteson (D)
Matteson was named a First Team All-League defender in 2023 as a Cathedral Catholic High School member.
She helped the Dons reach the CIF Division I state quarterfinals in 2023 and the CIF Open Division quarterfinals in 2024.
A multi-sport athlete, Matteson also participated in three Western League championship teams and three CIF Southern Section Division II title-winning squads in track and field.
After losing key defenders Emma Brown and Aynsley Conner to graduation, Matteson should help the Mustangs re-bolster their defense for the 2025 season.
Sam Walker (D)
Walker earned First Team All-League defender honors and helped Concord’s Carondelet High School secure CIF North Coast Section and East Bay Athletic League championships from 2022-23.
In the 2023-24 season, Walker scored five goals in four games.
As captain of her club team, the Mustang Soccer Club, since 2019, she has twice earned First Team ECNL All-Conference honors.
Cal Poly Men’s Tennis
Three recruits signed with the Cal Poly men’s tennis team ahead of their 2025 season, head coach Nick Carless.
The three recruits are Derek Hafiz (Westport, CT), Denzel Seetso (Gaborone, Botswana), and Liam Toroman (Boise State/Los Angeles, Calif.). Toroman is a Division I transfer who previously played for Boise State.
Hafiz and Seetso are high schoolers, meaning that joining the program marks the beginning of their collegiate tennis career. They will begin competing for Cal Poly in the 2025-2026 academic year.
According to tennisrecruiting.net, the tennis star from Westport, Conn., was ranked 66th in the 2024 men’s tennis recruiting pool, fourth in Connecticut in men’s tennis and a five-star recruit. As a dominant singles player, Carless is excited about his potential and craft as a player.
With a Universal Tennis Rating of 10 for singles and doubles, Seetso brings a lot to the table for the Mustangs. His overall record is 36-13, according to tennisrecruiting.net.
Originally from Botswana, Africa, his skills competing nationally and representing his country at the Davis Cup will make him a notable addition to Cal Poly.
During his 2023-2024 season at Boise State, Toroman finished with an 11-7 singles record and a 5-7 doubles record.
While in high school, Toroman was ranked as a top 25 recruit and is a notable collegiate tennis player. After one season at Boise State, he returned to his hometown of Los Angeles, Calif., to continue his collegiate career.
After the 2023-2024 season, seniors Colter Smith, Noah Berry and Joe Leather graduated.
Losing these key players was tough for Cal Poly, but these unique additions for the coming years should give the Mustangs the tools they need to continue to thrive in the Big West and make noise as a men’s collegiate tennis team.
Cal Poly Women’s Tennis
The reigning Big West Champions signed three national letters of intent to close out the 2025-26 recruiting cycle for incoming freshmen.
The Mustangs signing class welcomes three new players, Aspen Chung, Olivia Mlouk, and Tia Bonita Jakupovic-Kljako.
Aspen Chung – Tustin, Calif.
Chung is a five-star prospect, ranked as the No. 52 high schooler in the country and No. 10 in California.
She plays for Laurel Springs Academy in Tustin, Calif.
Chung is the first five-star prospect the Mustangs had landed since 2022 when current junior Kennedy Buntrock committed.
Olvia Mlouk – Long Beach, Calif.
Mlouk attends the prestigious Mater Dei High School, where she posted an incredible undefeated regular-season career in both singles and doubles.
Her Mater Dei team won the CIF State Championship in 2022 and 2023, and she was teammates with Cal Poly sophomore Natalie Lynch.
Mlouk is a four-star prospect currently ranked the No. 36 junior in all of California.
Tia Bonita Jakupovic-Kljako – London, England
For the final signing, the Mustangs crossed the pond to land Jakupovic-Kljako.
Playing for Queenswood School in Hertfordshire, England, she competed in and won the 2023 Aberdare Cup. The Aberdare Cup is England’s national tournament for U18 schools.
According to the LTA, Jakupovic-Kljako will come from the No. 1 ranked school for tennis in England. She will bring immense talent to Cal Poly’s incoming class.
Cal Poly Track and Field
Cal Poly Track & Field and Cross Country announced six recruits for the 2025-26 season.
The recruits include five distance runners and one thrower. Three women and three men are freshmen, except for one transfer from Cuesta Community College.
These come after adding assistant coach Brandon Lawrence, who spent the last two years coaching at Wake Forest and was asked to lead the recruiting efforts when he got here, according to GoPoly.
In early September, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Ryan Vanhoy named him an assistant coach for both programs.
The new signings add to an already talented program. Track and field swept the Big West Championships in the spring of 2024, while cross country has swept three years in a row.
Trinity Tipton – Discus/Shot Put – Camarillo, Calif.
Tipton will be the only recruit solely joining the track & field squad, as she will join the throwing team.
At Adolfo Camarillo High School, she competed in shot put and discus while also wrestling. Her best marks throwing are 40.6 feet for shotput and 146.8 feet for discus.
Avery Smith – Distance Runner – Temecula, Calif.
Smith, from Great Oaks High School, will join the distance squad in the fall of 2025.
Her older brother, Carson Smith, is a redshirt sophomore on the program. Carson placed 10th in the 1,500 at the Big West Championships.
Miles Cook – Distance Runner – San Francisco, Calif.
Cook will be coming from Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep in the Bay Area.
He will be racing at the California State Championship on Nov. 30th after securing first place on the men’s side in the section championships.
Tyler Daillak – Distance Runner – Paso Robles, Calif.
Daillak will stay local and join the Mustangs as he will graduate from Paso Robles High School.
This year, he’s recorded two sub-15-minute performances in the 5K, including a personal best of 14:53.7 on Oct. 12. On Nov. 21, he ran a 14:55.66, becoming the first individual men’s Division 2 champion in school history for Paso Robles.
Liam Miller – Distance Runner – Torrance, Calif.
Miller will join the team after he graduates from South High School. On Oct. 25th, Miller clocked 15:14 at the Mt. Sac Invitational Presented by Nike, a three-mile course.
Brinley Ewen – Distance Runner – San Luis Obispo, Calif.
After attending Stanislaus State and running at Cuesta, Ewen will run for her hometown school in 2025.
At San Luis Obispo High School, she was an Honors Athlete of the Year in 2023 while also competing in swimming. At Cuesta, she won Athlete of the Month in February of 2024 for earning a spot on Cuesta’s All-Time Top 10 for the metric mile (4:49.98).
Cal Poly Swim and Dive
All but two of the 11 recruits are from California, and four are in the top 50 of their state’s high school rankings.
Men’s Recruits
On the men’s side, Logan Calhoun is a standout member of the class. He attends Chattahoochee High School in Georgia, where he is ranked fourth in the state.
The team will be looking for him to contribute immediately to conference scoring.
Jed Johnson, the 37th-ranked swimmer in California and a graduate of De La Salle High School in Concord, will be another instant contributor next season.
Castro Valley High School swimmer Simon Li, ranked 68th, and Kale Lozano, the 40th-ranked swimmer from Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, close out the competitive men’s swimming class.
Carson Harrington is the lone diving recruit and the only other out-of-state signee from Evergreen High School in Colorado.
Harrington is a junior national qualifier for all three diving events and a senior national qualifier for both the one-meter and three-meter springboard events.
Women’s Recruits
Landrey Gold is the top-ranked swimmer in this women’s class, landing at the 46th spot in California while swimming for Whitney High School in Rocklin.
170-ranked swimmer Kylie Bell and 205th-ranked Caterina Poletti will carry a home-field advantage next season, as they swam for the SLO Swim Club this past year.
They signed Chloe Quarles, the 110th-ranked swimmer from Coronado High School.
The Mustangs rounded out this year’s women’s class with two freestyle and backstroke swimmers, 99th-ranked Ariana Amoroso from Newport Harbor High School and 119th-ranked Isabelle Schmid from Saint Francis High School in Sacramento.
They did not add any diving recruits on the women’s side for next year.
Cal Poly Men’s and Women’s Golf
Cal Poly Men’s Golf added an international recruit to next year’s roster, with Zihao Wang signing a National Letter of Intent to join the Mustangs for the 2025-26 season.
Wang, a native of Zhuhai, China, is ranked fifth in the 2025 international class and 63rd overall.
Wang ranks 504th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) and is Cal Poly’s highest-ranked WAGR recruit of all time.
Competing against professionals from a young age, Wang has captured two professional event titles as well as a high-level China junior national championship.
Women’s Golf added three signees of their own, head coach Courtney Roberts announced. The recruits joining the Mustangs next season are Sacramento native Taylor Baker, Alex Flier from Los Angeles and Maddy Saysanasongkham from San Diego.
At Rio Americano High School in Sacramento, Baker has set every women’s golf record, resulting in Team MVP and All-League honors all four years.
Baker grew up a Cal Poly fan, spending lots of time with family in the area, making her commitment particularly special for her.
Flier will return to the west coast after attending high school at the Dwight School in New York. Flier has succeeded in junior golf events across the globe, including the Madrid Championships in Spain and the Grand Prix d’Aix-Marseille-Caillol in France.
Saysanasongkham helped lead Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego to four league championships.
She racked up two League Player of the Year awards, 2023 San Diego Junior Golf Player of the Year, First Team All-CIF honors and represented San Diego at the Girl’s Junior America’s Cup twice.
Saysanasongkham will bring her lengthy resumé and winning pedigree to the Mustangs next year, a team that finished second in the Big West Championship in 2024.
