Women's tennis team sweeps doubleheader

The Cal Poly women’s tennis team controlled Mustang Courts on Saturday in a doubleheader, blasting UC Riverside 7-0 and then San Jose State 6-1.

“We came out strong and dominated,” said Cal Poly sophomore Brittany Blalock.

In No. 1 doubles against UC Riverside, Blalock and fellow sophomore Steffi Wong (21-15), ranked 36th in the country, defeated Erynne Oki and Angelique Corpuz 8-3.

Major League Soccer arrives at Cal Poly

Finally, the world’s most popular sport is gaining momentum in the United States, and now, in San Luis Obispo, as three Major League Soccer franchises will participate in the MLS Central Coast Showcase tonight through Sunday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

“Right now in the community, Cal Poly athletics is the highest form of youth sports, so to have pro teams come in gives them a glimpse of a higher level,” said Cal Poly men’s soccer team assistant coach Brian Reed.
