Results are in: Cal Poly students want Arnold back. An online Mustang Daily poll shows that 60 percent of the surveyed students will be voting for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today, with just 23 percent for Democrat Phil Angelides.
“I think he’s doing a decent job in education,” mechanical engineering sophomore Bruno Caulk said of Schwarzenegger.
High school seniors should be warned of the rising concern colleges have for acceptable academic performance. Certain schools are getting strict for the first time.
San Francisco State University rescinded 63 acceptances, and Cal Poly was not far behind, revoking 43 incoming freshmen.
Garden Grille will be no more starting in fall 2008. To replace it will be 19 Market Place. The whole purpose of the Garden Grille was to serve as an interim dining place, said Alan Cushman, director of campus dining.
The Garden Grille has barely been around for one year, opening last fall for the first day of classes.
About 7,000 students may be affected by a “worm” that infected a computer system at Cal Poly.
On Oct. 3, the worm was identified in a system used in conjunction with campus telephone billing. Personal information was discovered on the system, which included names and Social Security numbers of students living in residence halls from 2001 to 2005.
“It’s a whole attitude, trying to deprive (myself) of all evil, and trying to present myself with a better image,” architectural engineering junior Marya Mikati said.
For Mikati, a typical day during Ramadan involves waking up at 5 a.m., getting a drink of water, then going back to sleep.
The “spider building” is set to be completely renovated starting in fall 2008. Also known as the science center, its renovation, along with other renovation projects around campus are dependent on ballot measure 1D passing in November.
The proposal will allot about $16.
Though it’s been over 50 years since El Mustang ran this “welcome” article to incoming students, change is apparent in every aspect of how Cal Poly was then versus now.
When Cal Poly first opened its doors, there were only 15 students and three faculty members.
Alex G. Spanos Stadium will almost be completed by Oct. 21, the date of the Cal Poly football team’s homecoming game against South Dakota State, Cal Poly director of athletics Alison Cone said Wednesday.
“We’re likely to have all chair-back seating available,” Cone said.
“We are all born good to do good,” said Catherine Hyde, director of the Pay It Forward Foundation.
Anyone who does not do this, she says, “has unlearned it.”
The Pay It Forward Foundation, based in San Luis Obispo County, was established in 2000 to inspire students to change the world, and give them opportunities to do so.
Senior forward Kelsey Carroll is among the Cal Poly women’s soccer team’s leaders in nearly every category this season.
But her impressive statistics and individual accomplishments have not taken away from her dedication.
For Carroll, team success is most important.
