Forbes ranked Cal Poly as the 57th best university in the U.S. on their annual America’s Top Colleges list – up from No. 83 on last year’s list. Cal Poly is ranked as the 14th best university in the West and is the highest ranked CSU campus.

“This ranking illustrates how Cal Poly is succeeding in providing our students with a world-class education and preparing tomorrow’s leaders to meet the critical demands of our state, nation and world,” Cal Poly President Jeffrey D. Armstrong said in a press release from the university.

Cal Poly is the 18th best public university in the U.S. and is the 12th best university in California. Cal Poly is also ranked as the best public master’s university in the state.

“Our students are attracted by our Learn by Doing ethos, in which their classroom and lab experiences transform them into workers and entrepreneurs ready to succeed on Day One in their careers and their communities,” Armstrong said in the press release.

Forbes uses educational, financial and career outcomes for all students to choose and rank the 500 best American colleges each year. Forbes publishes their entire methodology, which has alumni salary as the highest weighted category.

“Two years after graduating from a four-year program, Cal Poly alumni earn a median $72,358,” Forbes reported. “Later on in their careers, 10 years after graduation, their median salaries hover around $148,600.”
