Campus Health and Wellbeing joined the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative Reimbursement Program. The program is designed to transform mental health for students, allowing state insurance providers to reimburse CH&W for qualifying services provided on campus.
California’s Department of Health Care Services and the California Health and Human Service Agency is offering the initiative
“CH&W is participating in this program so we can meet the evolving needs of our student body,” said University Spokesperson Keegan Koberl.
Cal Poly asks students with California-based health insurance plans to share their plan information to CH&W to support the initiative. Instructions on how to submit this information can be found on the initiative’s page in the Health and Counseling portal.
Over the past several years, the demand for mental health care has increased. According to the initiative’s website, from 2017 to 2025, counseling services increased 70% despite the student population growing only 3%.
The initiative allows CH&W to offer expanded screenings and innovative wellbeing programs, which will allow students to receive the care they deserve. To keep up with demand, the initiative provides supplemental funding to help maintain high-end care.
Patients are not required to have health insurance to access services, and the Cal Poly health fee will grant students access to the programThere will be no co-payments or deductibles for the student or their supporters.
Through the implementation of the initiative, CH&W remains committed to providing the best possible services for the entire student body and maintaining privacy, according to University Spokesperson Keegan Koberl.
“This program is designed to protect student confidentiality. Policyholders will not see any claim activity or service details,” Koberl said.
Any revenue from program participation will go directly to funding the expansion of CH&W’s current services and creating new, innovative programs so all students can receive care.
