Deceased sociology freshman Giselle Ayala, whose body was found in the surf  in Santa Barbara this weekend, “sustained injuries consistent with a fall,” according to a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office press release issued Tuesday.

Ayala, who was in Isla Vista for Deltopia, an annual spring break party, was at a party along the cliffs with friends Friday night when they became separated.

In an interview with the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Ayala’s mother, Cat, said investigators indicated her daughter fell from a cliff when officers broke up the party. She could not be reached for comment.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kelly Hoover said no more information will be released until the investigation is concluded.

Kaytlyn Leslie contributed to this staff report.
