A fire broke out in a garbage truck on North Perimeter Road at Cal Poly this afternoon, forcing the driver to dump burning trash onto the road to prevent the vehicle from catching fire, according to University Spokesperson Matt Lazier.
After being reported at 2:44 p.m., the Cal Poly Police Department and San Luis Obispo Fire Department extinguished the fire.
Traffic is being diverted while cleanup is underway to clear the debris.
