The 842 Palm Street parking garage is returning to a pay-upon-exit model starting March 10, shifting away from its gateless format, according to a city press release on Monday.
Once the system is in place, visitors will be required to pay an hourly rate of $2. Payment options include debit or credit cards, cash or contactless payment. This new policy will not affect monthly garage permit holders.
Located at 842 Palm Street, the garage is the second largest parking structure in the city, with 415 spots available. The change is part of a larger city plan to improve transportation in the city, known as the Downtown Parking Technology Roadmap.
The new system is intended to make parking downtown more convenient, according to Donna King, the city’s parking program manager.
“With this new system, we are making parking more convenient and accessible, reducing wait times, and providing a seamless experience for all visitors,” King stated in the press release. King encouraged residents to provide the city feedback on the system.
Installation of the new system will begin March 10 and is expected to last one to two weeks. The city advised visitors to park in other structures to avoid delays. Changes are set to be made to the city’s other parking structures later this year. More details on the project can be found on the city’s website.
Edit: This story has been edited on March 7 to clarify phrasing regarding the gateless format.
