KCPR, Cal Poly’s student-run radio station, will host its quarterly open mic night this Thursday, Nov. 13 in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). The doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the event will last until 10 p.m.

The event is free and open to anyone, but it’s aimed at freshmen and sophomores living on campus.

“I’d like to see a diversity of performances,” event director and KCPR DJ Finn Warfield said. “There’s usually lots of single acoustic guitarists, and it would be cool to see more full bands with more diverse instruments.”

KCPR is going for a coffee house vibe, he said, and the station will provide coffee and refreshments in hopes of creating a comfortable atmosphere.

Thursday’s event will broadcast live on KCPR for the first time in KCPR open mic night history.

“Since we are broadcasting, there are Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements we need to follow,” Warfield, a business administration sophomore, said. “No swear words, and there are certain things you can’t say on the air.”

To reserve a space for performance, Warfield said students can fill out this form and find more information on the Facebook event. The next open mic nights will take place in February and spring quarter.
