On the second day of the Best of the West tournament, the Cal Poly Beach Volleyball team extended their win streak to 18 games. It marks the longest streak in the country after beating the No. 3 LMU Lions and the No. 16 Stetson Hatters in Laguna Beach, Calif on Saturday, Apr. 5.
A day after beating two other ranked opponents, UCLA and the University of Washington, Cal Poly would continue their winning ways.
In the first match of the game against the No. 2 Lions, the Mustangs would come out on top by a score of 3-2.
Cal Poly’s No. 1 pairing of Piper Ferch and Erin Inskeep, No. 3 pairing of Quinn Perry and Lindsey Sparks and the No. 5 pairing, Abbey Reinard and Elise Lenahan, were able to secure their points and give Cal Poly their third win of the weekend in the same number of games.
Logan Walter and Izzy Martinez were unable to win their match as the No. 2 pair, losing two of their last three matches after recording 14 straight match wins.
In the second game of the day, playing against their fourth straight ranked team of the weekend, the Mustangs would take care of business against the Hatters, beating them 4-1.
The only match that the Mustangs dropped in their match against Stetson was the No. 5 matchup.
Cal Poly advances to 4-0 on the weekend and 20-2 overall and takes on two more ranked opponents to wrap up the Best of the West tournament.
