Trigger Warning: This article discusses death and violence related to the Israel-Hamas war

Mustangs United for Israel (MUFI), SLO Hillel and SLO Mishelanu created a memorial demonstration on Dexter Lawn on Monday in memory of those killed on Oct. 7, 2023.

Club members placed nearly 100 sticks in the lawn with photos of victims from the Nova Music Festival attack, including brief descriptions to personalize them.

On Oct. 7, 2023, an estimated 1200 people in Israel were killed. For information regarding the Israel-Hamas war, reference the Associated Press.

“It’s not just a picture,” said Lexi Yaghoubi, MUFI president and kinesiology-public health junior. “It was a human life.”

An image of a Nova Music Festival partygoer, May Naim, stated she “loved to help her grandfather cook” while an image of another partygoer, Yohai Ben Zecharia, stated he “loved animals” and “was all heart.”

Israeli victims’ posters included an Israeli flag while those from other countries did not, highlighting the variety of countries who mourn Oct. 7, according to Yaghoubi.

“This wasn’t just Israelis [that died],” Yaghoubi said.

Members discussed the Oct. 7 attack with bypassers and handed out yellow flowers and ribbons, which symbolize hope for bringing hostages home, according to Yaghoubi.
