The Cal Poly men’s soccer team played Cal State Northridge to an exciting double-overtime draw, 1-1 Friday night in front of a healthy and boisterous crowd at the Sports Complex.
The Mustangs’ record now stands at 2-4-3 overall and they now move on to San Jose State before returning to conference play at UC Irvine at 7 p.

Enrique Jimenez would be starting Cal Poly this week. He would be experiencing those freshman butterflies and scurrying to find his classes for the first time.
But while attending an event at Montana de Oro for orientation week, Jimenez died three days before his freshman year officially started.

Music listeners have been trading favorite songs and albums since before the vinyl record, but with the growing popularity of downloading and online CD stores, the communication between music fans has been lost.
Lala.com is trying to change that.
As the newest addition to the Internet music community, the CD-trading Web site encourages communication between users and is completely legal, cheap and easy to use.
Dancers and actors will have a chance to come together once again as the Cal Poly theater and dance department gets ready for another school year filled with comedy, pirouettes and performances.
Founded in 1969 by Dr. Moon Ja Miss Suhr, Cal Poly’s dance company, Orchesis, will be holding auditions this week for the 2006-07 company.

You are invited to escape to an enchanting land, where the flowers are endless and views are breathtaking, right on the Cal Poly campus. Where is this magical place, you ask? The Leaning Pine Arboretum located in building 48 on Via Carta Road at the north end of campus.
Since he joined the Mustang Marching Band as a freshman in the fall of 2004, Cal Poly music junior Steven Becraft has played at dozens of home football and basketball games.
He has fond memories of each of them.
“Out of all the games I’ve already played at, I wouldn’t take back a single one,” said Becraft, who is the section leader for bassoons in the school’s wind ensemble.
A new face has joined the Cal Poly rodeo team: Tony Branquinho. He has accepted the position of rodeo coach and will replace Frank Mello, who finished his tenure in June.
Mello will stay on as a rodeo consultant to help Branquinho, 31, make a smooth transition into the program.
Fall sports have just begun and while everyone will be excited to see the football team in action at the renovated Alex G. Spanos Stadium, there are also excellent club sports that Cal Poly can offer:
Roller Hockey
The Cal Poly Roller Hockey club finished in first place last season among Division I teams in the Western Collegiate Roller Hockey League and finished 11th nationally.
His team had just dismantled Division II Fort Lewis 44-0 in its season opener.
But Cal Poly football head coach Rich Ellerson made it clear there is always room for improvement after the lopsided home win Sept. 2 in front of 5,857 fans at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.
