The Cal Poly students who attended Deltopia this past weekend had no idea the night would take such an ugly turn.
The Isla Vista-based event led to the arrests of more than 100 people and the transportation of 44 people to the hospital.
Shell Beach, usually buzzing with college student partygoers, was relatively quiet during this year’s Cesar Chavez Day.
SLOPD arrested a total of 11 people during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day, a small amount compared to last year’s 38 arrests.
“At any given time — you know, those little drug baggies — there were, like, 50 on the ground.”
According to University Police Department numbers, there were a total of 63 alcohol and drug related hospital calls made on campus last year. With the current academic year almost over, there have already been 58 calls.
First year students Taylor Yzaguirre, Sierra Hyland, Ashley Tornio, Shawna McDonough, Kiersten Nordin and Courtney Tyler- were originally put on athletic suspension in the beginning of February.
