As college students, we have had a long history of filling little boxes in on tests. I remember that every year through grade school, high school, and college, I was most confused about the ethnicity box. See, I’m exactly half Asian-American and half European-American, and unfortunately, no such box exists for this particular mix.

The online cooking revolution
It all started with a little E.V.O.O and before America knew it, Rachael Ray had almost single-handedly revolutionized the way we cook. The spunky and energetic host of “30-Minute Meals” got Americans back into the kitchen with easy, healthy and delicious recipes – but not necessarily because of her TV shows (she has five, by the way) – but because of the Internet.
Upstart airline winning public favor with gimmicks and new policy
Editor’s note: ‘The Bunion’ is fake news. Period. SAN LUIS OBISPO -A recent poll showed that money mogul Jack Vander-Bucks and his upstart airline Fair-Air are rapidly winning public acclaim. Though Fair-Air in service is every way as majorly piss-poor as other airline sector competitors and in some ways much worse, the key difference is in Fair-Air’s ideology and guaranteed “No Bullshit” policy, which abandon the tired facades of punctuality, safety and reliability that pervade the industry.
How to start calling shotgun like a pro
Well, everyone has their way to do it. Some are quicker than others, so in the end really, only one person prevails. Of course, I’m talking about the shotgun. Now, hold on college boy and college girl, because I’m not talking about shotgunning a beer, but rather the ever so important “shotgun” yell to get the rights to the front passenger seat in the car.
Capitalism requires homelessness to exist
I sure hope Brian Eller’s article “Giving to homeless not so helpful” (Jan. 10) was a big joke. It was painful to read, yet valuable in that it highlights some of our society’s biggest socioeconomic problems.
Brian urges our student body to “attack the root of the problem” by yelling at the homeless from speeding automobiles.
Beggars not always in need
I believe giving to beggars is wrong. Somebody previously said the homeless population is made up of alcoholics, which can’t be true. However, substance abuse is no reason to beg.
Why should we give to beggars? They didn’t earn it. When I was growing up in Salinas, I gave my sandwich to a woman “in need” with a baby and she threw it away.
Some want to be homeless
Dear Brian Eller,
First off, I can’t believe that you have the balls (or lack thereof) to be able to wear a striped polo shirt and still call yourself a Republican. You are just strengthening the stereotype that West Coast Republicans are weak and are an embarassment to the right wing.
Reaching 2007 first: a life in Australia
In a few minutes, I will be welcoming the New Year with more than a million other people. No one here is wearing goofy 2007 sunglasses or waiting for a giant disco ball to drop.
This is Sydney, Australia – people are wearing bikinis or T-shirts and shorts, sipping on a bottle of Tooheys (Foster’s isn’t Australian for beer).
How to Survive: Academic probation
I won’t go on about how my winter break was and hope that you had a good one too because I know you got that e-mail. Yes, that dreaded e-mail. The one that says you’re on academic probation, and you better watch it, kid. It could be your first time and you’re really scared.
Actions speak louder than shouts
Dear Brian Eller,
It was with mounting anger that I read your hate-filled, overly judgmental letter about the homeless. Have you ever stopped to think that the vast population of homeless in this area are mentally ill? Or that maybe, some of those Vietnam veterans who fought for this country, and have been fighting for their rights as veterans, have been reduced to panhandling?
Other cities dump thier homeless here too, sending them here with a one-way bus ticket.
Eller lacks perspective on reasons for homelessness
Brian Eller,
Your level of ignorance only pales in comparision to your selfishness. The vast majority of homeless are mentally ill. They are afflicted with disorders that require medical care, medication and often hospitalization. They aren’t capable of “getting a job.
