From the other side of the pond

Merely knowing a person who moved to a foreign country on her own to pursue passionate endeavors is awe-inspiring enough.

Add on to that the fact that she merited national championships in her home country by the age of 13, hadn’t yet graduated high school when she moved to America, aspires to become a professional athlete, works to attain a Cal Poly degree and is only 21, and Diane Filip may make you just feel lazy.

Mustangs topple Tigers in conference play

In his fourth starting role at Cal Poly, sophomore guard Lorenzo Keeler dropped 15 points to lead the Mustangs to just their second win in 20 games at the Alex G.

Eye of the 'white tiger'

Who knew that Cal Poly was home to a white tiger? OK, maybe not a real white tiger, but ask any member of the Cal Poly swim team, “Where’s the white tiger?” and they’ll most likely point you in the direction of freshman swimmer Gloria Benefield.

When asked how she came to be known as “the white tiger,” she said, “I have this suit that’s blue and it’s got stripes like a tiger, and I’m really white – I don’t tan whatsoever – so a guy on the team named me ‘white tiger.

Don't mess with Megan

Since she was in third grade, Megan Harrison has played basketball.

“Basketball is my life and I don’t know what I’m going to do without it when I graduate,” she says.

Before moving to Dripping Springs, Texas, Harrison lived in Cambria with her family and played soccer because girls were not allowed to play on a basketball team until fifth grade.
