Temperatures could rise up to 100 degrees in the city of San Luis Obispo, according to the National Weather Service’s extreme heat warning.
The heat warning will be in effect until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, with temperatures projected to drop as the weekend approaches.
Cal Poly sent a Poly Alert today at 1 p.m. advising students to stay hydrated, take breaks and use cooler indoor spaces. The alert said some classes may move online and directed students to Campus Health and Wellbeing if they need medical support. The National Weather Service is advising the public to drink plenty of fluids and not to leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors could reach lethal temperatures within minutes. It also warned that extreme heat can significantly increase the risk of heat-related illness.
