The Pismo Beach fire was fully contained Monday afternoon after burning nearly 10 acres on Sunday. A suspect was taken into custody Monday, according to a Pismo Beach Police press release.
The suspect was later identified as Cortlan Jarrod Soles, 30, from Los Angeles. Witnesses said they saw a person near the area setting fire to a tent and walking away, according to the release.
The fire was first reported at 1:26 p.m. Sunday near Costa Brava in Pismo Beach, according to Cal Fire. It spread through vegetation near Highway 101 and behind homes along Mattie Road.
Crews stopped the fire’s forward progress Sunday afternoon. The fire was 35% contained shortly before 4 p.m. and 90% contained by 8:23 p.m. Sunday, according to Cal Fire.
The fire reached 100% containment by 7:30 a.m. Monday.
Full containment means firefighters have established control lines around the fire’s perimeter and expect those lines to prevent further spread. It does not necessarily mean the fire is extinguished. Crews can continue monitoring the area and putting out hot spots after a fire reaches 100% containment.
No structures were reported damaged, and no active threats to homes or other structures were reported, according to Cal Fire.
