Help is on the way for the estimated 7 million Californians affected by mental illness. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) recently announced plans to begin new Peer-to-Peer Recovery Education Courses for clients in the state.

Two years ago, President George W. Bush mandated that all educational institutions take a day to celebrate the signing of the Constitution. On Nov. 2, Cal Poly will observe this day as the university will hold the second annual “Constitution Day,” in the Spanos Theater from 3:30 to 4:40 p.
The University Diversity Enhancement Council (UDEC) at Cal Poly is currently directing the development of a student-led mural project. Work on the project began last winter quarter and is expected to be completed by the end of next quarter.
According to the Cal Poly multicultural programs Web site, “the purpose of the mural project is to promote and enhance diversity amongst people at Cal Poly and is a creative way for all students to become involved with the campus.

Voters in California will take to the polls on Nov. 7 to decide the fate of Proposition 86.
Proposition 86 would more then triple the tax on a pack of cigarettes and other tobacco products. The current tax on a pack of cigarettes is 87 cents. If passed, Proposition 86 would increase that to $3.
The original El Corral Bookstore opened on the campus of Cal Poly in 1933. According to an advertisement in the Nov. 24, 1959,edition of El Mustang, a plush animal gift started at $1.90.
Today, the bookstore’s Web site sells a plush cow for $12.99. Though the times and the prices have changed, El Corral has always stayed the same.
San Luis Obispo is turning 150 years old and the community is invited to join the celebration.
The grand finale of the yearlong sesquicentennial commemoration takes place tonight at Farmers’ Market.
“It’s a celebration and recognition of San Luis Obispo as a community,” Steering Committee member June McIvor said.
