Painting a picture of diversity

The University Diversity Enhancement Council (UDEC) at Cal Poly is currently directing the development of a student-led mural project. Work on the project began last winter quarter and is expected to be completed by the end of next quarter.

According to the Cal Poly multicultural programs Web site, “the purpose of the mural project is to promote and enhance diversity amongst people at Cal Poly and is a creative way for all students to become involved with the campus.

Prop. 86 to affect smokers

Voters in California will take to the polls on Nov. 7 to decide the fate of Proposition 86.

Proposition 86 would more then triple the tax on a pack of cigarettes and other tobacco products. The current tax on a pack of cigarettes is 87 cents. If passed, Proposition 86 would increase that to $3.

SLO blows out 150 candles

San Luis Obispo is turning 150 years old and the community is invited to join the celebration.

The grand finale of the yearlong sesquicentennial commemoration takes place tonight at Farmers’ Market.

“It’s a celebration and recognition of San Luis Obispo as a community,” Steering Committee member June McIvor said.
