After earlier reports that Chino’s Rock & Tacos would be closing, new ownership is keeping the downtown restaurant open.

The ownership change will not affect the menu, employees or style of the restaurant, according to restaurant manager Mikal Dyer.

The name of the new owner is being withheld until the change of owner officially takes place, Dyer said.

Economics freshman Yanni Dalkos said he’s glad that Chino’s will remain open “because they have some really good traditional Mexican tacos that I love a lot.”

Dalkos often goes to Chino’s before going to the train station, so if the restaurant was closed, “I don’t know what I would eat,” he said.

After opening in 2006, the restaurant has gone through some menu changes, but for the most part, what was offered back then is still the same today.

“Chino’s has been a staple of the SLO community for over eight years and we hope that everyone can come and enjoy what we have to offer on a daily basis,” Dyer said.
