What if you could shop in a store that is never the same twice; expecting to find the unexpected in an environment that is constantly changing? For all second-hand enthusiasts, Habitat for Humanity’s ReStores in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles have something for everyone.

These repurposed stores are completely made up of donated overstock and gently-used items, including home appliances and decor, furniture, and construction and building materials. With every item being pre-owned, they recognize the positive impact that saving usable materials from being sent to the landfill has on SLO County’s sustainability. In fact, every $1 sold in the ReStore is equivalent to 1.3 pounds of diverted waste.

SLO County ReStores are part of the non-profit organization, Habitat for Humanity SLO County, where their mission of building affordable housing aims to serve individuals and families for generations to come. This is made possible by partnering with the local community and volunteers who value the same outlook of hope. Habitat for Humanity’s SLO County ReStores foster this environment for their customers, valuing how each one-of-a-kind donated item crafts a truly unique shopping experience.

As a non-profit, they are always looking for volunteers who are eager to be a part of a meaningful and impactful organization. Ages 16 and over are eligible to sign up to help with duties such as processing donations, pricing and merchandising items, and other tasks in the ReStores. In addition, volunteers support all programs of Habitat SLO including building homes and advocating for affordable housing. Volunteers are essential in ensuring the success of all Habitat programs.

One of the easiest ways to make a difference is to donate unused or unwanted items that are in a clean, safe, and usable condition, to one of the ReStores. This offers an opportunity for someone else to find joy in an item without creating waste. In such a tight-knit community like San Luis Obispo, Habitat SLO ReStores value sourcing donations from local individuals and corporate partners.

You can donate now by emailing a picture of your items to ReStorePaso@habitatslo.org or ReStoreSLO@habitatslo.org.

ReStores are open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in both San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles locations. The SLO Restore is located at 2790 Broad St. and the Paso Robles location can be found at 844 9th St.
