Floral Design Team arranges a second place win

The Cal Poly Floral Design Team missed first place at the National Floral Design Competition in Washington, D.C. by only two points. The team beat out 11 other campuses for the second place honor.

“(The judges) picked the team with the highest average, and Mississippi was only two points above us,” Lynch said.

Award given to professor for dairy research

For most of us, drinking a glass of milk is just that, sipping down milk. The in-depth thoughts about the milk and its contents never really cross the mind unless that mind belongs to professor Phil Tong.

Tong, director of the Dairy Products Technology Center, has been in the dairy industry for over 20 years, and some of his recent work has earned him an International Dairy Foods Association Research Award.

Ishler, a kinesiology junior, skateboarded from San Luis Obispo to his hometown of Santa Monica in three days, a 230-mile-long journey.

Wi-Fi gets easier on campus

The Information Technology Service Department is making changes to the way students using laptops can access the internet on campus for the upcoming fall quarter.

Beginning Sept. 9, Cal Poly students will be able to easily access wireless networks throughout campus for the first time without having to register laptops through the ITS office.

Mustangs happy to be in gear

Blocking and tackling was a bit louder Aug. 14 when the Cal Poly football team practiced in full pads for the first time during training camp.

Head coach Rich Ellerson said the Mustangs had already been doing roughly 80 percent of the drills seen during Monday’s practice, which lasted nearly three hours at the track and field facility.
