Faculty and students are planning to march against rape culture Thursday, May 25 in response to the College Republican’s invitation of Lauren Southern, according to a Students for Quality Education (SQE) press release.

Lauren Southern is a right-wing activist and writer known for her commentary on feminism, free speech and immigration, according to Rebel Media.

The march will start at 5:30 p.m. in the University Union and will move to Clyde P. Fisher Science Hall (building 33), where Southern’s event is being held. After the event, the marchers will have their own performances and speaker as well as a rally for progressive and community-focused solutions to campus problems, according to the press release.

According to the Facebook event, there will also be a sign making event on Mott Lawn at 4:30 p.m. before the march.

The main parties that will participate are groups of students from the Queer Student Union, Triota, SQE, Cal Poly Democrats, Queer & Trans People of Color Club, Original Woman Narratives, the Empower Poly Coalition, Associated Students, Inc. leaders and members of greek life.

The parties will come together in condemnation of the “Republican’s agenda of bigotry and hate as well as Lauren Southern’s denial of rape culture,” according to the press release.
