The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s executed a search warrant in relation to the Kristin Smart case according to a press release by the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement went to the home of Paul Flores’ mother, Susan Flores, in Arroyo Grande on Wednesday morning.
Kristin Smart was a Cal Poly student who disappeared nearly 30 years ago on May 25, 1996. Paul Flores was found guilty of her murder and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison in 2022.

Flores became a person of interest because he was identified as the last person to see Smart alive. He was the sole suspect in the case by 1997, but remained free until 2021, when he was arrested.
Flores’ second appeal was denied by the California Supreme Court in January this year.

Susan Flores’ yard was first suspected in 1997 when a tenant who rented the house reported finding a turquoise earring that was never entered into evidence, and hearing a watch beep at 4:20 every morning until it stopped, as previously reported in the “Your Own Backyard” podcast by Chris Lambert. The tenant was later evicted, and Susan Flores moved back in. Her home was originally searched by sheriffs in 2000.
