5. Nwamaka Ofodu is Cal Poly’s defensive stopper

Nwamaka Ofodu, a transfer student from Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., thought her dream of playing for a Division I basketball team had been “smashed.” But a last-minute request to join Cal Poly’s team for a 6 a.m. practice after being cut from the pool of walk-ons landed her a position as the Mustangs’ best defensive stopper.
