Birdwatchers from across the Central Coast and beyond gathered in Morro Bay over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend for the 29th annual Morro Bay Birding Festival, a five-day event featuring more than 260 birding excursions and workshops. From kayak birding on the bay to guided easy birding walks through local parks, participants of all experience levels had the chance to spot native and migratory birds, including a rare sighting of an eagle carrying a fish. Reporter Chloe Schauermann followed festival-goers to explore what keeps many locals coming back year after year.
