Departments affected by recent flooding in the Student Services Building (BLDG. 124) have relocated to the Administration Building (BLDG. 1) for the remainder of the fall quarter, with no definite timeline for their return, according to University Spokesperson Matt Lazier.
Cal Poly Career Services, TRIO Achievers, External Relations and the Disability Resource Center (DRC) were displaced by the flooding, Lazier said.
No damages occurred in the TRIO offices on the second floor of the Student Services Building, according to TRIO Achievers Director Jacqueline Gallegos in an email to Mustang News.
TRIO Achievers, Cal Poly Career Services and the DRC communicated with students on their websites about the change in location and how that will impact their services.
In an automated email, Cal Poly Career Services said they will be operating remotely until Jan. 6 and beginning Nov. 12, interview rooms reservations will be available on a limited basis. The professional clothing closet is currently closed. For more information, Cal Poly Career Services said to check Mustang Jobs.
TRIO Achievers’ current location consists of one private staff office with storage for their workshop materials and office supplies, Gallegos said. In comparison, their previous space had four offices, consisting of three private offices and a computer lab for students.
“The team at Cal Poly has been very helpful in finding us a temporary space, providing necessary updates and assisting with logistics,” Gallegos said.
TRIO Achievers is not currently seeing students in their temporary space, and is rather engaging with students through various on-campus workshops and virtual meetings with TRIO staff, Gallegos said.
“Our temporary office space in the Administration Building is occupied by other employees and can be confusing to find,” Gallegos said. “We would rather meet our students where they are.”
Next week, TRIO professional staff is hosting optional drop-in office hours in the Cal Poly Science Building (BLDG. 52).
The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and Cal Poly Scholars have also opened their study space in the Cal Poly Science Building.
Gallegos said they are happy they can continue supporting students during this time.
“Students have been very understanding,” Gallegos said. “We still have students coming to our events and engaging with TRIO during this unexpected move.”
