On Feb. 7, ASI Events hosted YouTuber and comedian Noel Miller in Cal Poly’s Recreation Center Main Gym for a standup comedy show, drawing a crowd of more than 3000 students,  ASI Events Student Musical Entertainment Coordinator and math sophomore Katie Pierce said.

The event was free to all students with a PolyCard and government-issued ID, first come first served. ASI offered pre-registration on their website for up to 3500 students, granting registered students access to the venue first, followed by those on the waitlist. Pierce said ASI events like this are funded through ASI fees built into each students’ tuition.

With more than eight million followers across his social media platforms, Miller embarked on his “Everything is F#&ked” worldwide standup comedy tour in 2023 and is on the road again in the United States for his next tour, “Noel Miller Live,” until July. Miller is a co-founder of TMG Studios with YouTuber Cody Ko and the pair also hosts the award-winning podcast, “The Tiny Meat Gang Podcast.”

Pierce said this show broke records, not only for ASI but also for Miller’s team.

“This show was one of the, if not the largest ASI event we’ve ever hosted,” Pierce said. “What’s crazy too is that we learned after talking to Noel’s tour manager that our event was the largest show [Miller] has ever done in the [United] States. It’s so cool that we pulled off an event to this magnitude and it seemed like everyone had a great time.”

Praised for his quick wit and scathing one-liners, much of Miller’s fan base comprises of Gen-Z, with many Cal Poly students becoming fans over the years.

“I have been watching [Miller] and Cody Ko’s podcast for years, so when I saw ASI posting about [Miller] coming to perform, I was so stoked,” environmental sciences senior graduate Emma McLaren said. “I definitely have dark humor so I found [Miller’s show] to be really funny. It was just so cool to see him in person.”

Business senior Anna Chibukhchyan appreciates Miller’s frequent interactions with the audience as it made for a more entertaining show, she said.

“I loved when he kept going back to something that an audience member would say and make a joke based off of that,” Chibukhchyan said. “His performance was very unique and tailored to our show. It felt like we were all in on the same inside joke together.”
