SLO Get Out The Vote is a non-partisan organization dedicated to getting the students of Cal Poly registered to vote in the state of California and with the deadline to register coming up on Oct. 18, they are calling the students to action.
With a General Election coming up on Nov. 2, now it is as important as ever for the students to get their voices heard.
People are choosing not to vote in the Associated Students Inc. Elections because they disagree with “what’s going on?” Instead, people are opting to vote on the recent MyCalPoly Portal poll saying they don’t plan to vote in the ASI Elections.
ASI elections began at 7 a.m. at Cal Poly yesterday. ASI set up voting stations at the library and the University Union to encourage students to get out and vote. Voting ends tomorrow at 7 p.m. and the winner will be announced shortly after.
The College of Liberal Arts will be the most competitive race for the board of directors, with 12 candidates running for four positions to represent 2,587 students.
A university bylaw, concerning the minimum GPA requirement for ASI presidents, passed Wednesday, in preparation for the coming ASI presidential elections.
Cal Poly students will have a new “direct student liaison” next year in Kelly Griggs. The art and design senior was elected as 2009-2010 Associated Students Inc. president with the platform of being a link between the administration and the student body.
They’re too much alike to differentiate between their overlapping plans and platforms. And, while all of them have good ideas, nobody stands out as a leader with the ability to follow through, certainly not enough to warrant a staff endorsement.
The emerging Republican Party is all or nothing, and as a result we should expect more moderate Republican politicians and free thinkers to begin changing the letter after their names too.
